YOUR SAFE PLACE IS YOUR SECRET PLACE

Your safe place is your secret place | BSSM Series

There is a war against us connecting with God. Our own nature of being productive also fights against it. But what if we knew that this was the secret to the most powerful man who had ever walked on the earth? Our Daddy is waiting for us in His secret place. The secret place stops us from burning out. It is here that His love destroys all fear in our lives and we are changed daily by His glory.

‘YOUR SAFE PLACE IS YOUR SECRET PLACE’: BSSM LECTURE NOTES

THE SECRET PLACE

A revivalist must have a passion for His presence. It is only His presence that transforms lives, cities and nations. We need to get so full of the presence of God that we leave traces of it wherever we go. The definition of a revivalist says: “A believer who is focused and passionate; willing to pay any price to live in community, purity and power because he is loved by God, whose manifest presence transforms lives and cultures.” Bang!

Many times we fall into the habit of asking God for things. Instead, we need to turn our affections and hearts towards Him because when He is near, we have everything that we need. Only then do we have the certainty in our hearts that He will never leave or forsake us. That is why ‘soaking’ in His presence is so important. (Soaking, in its simplest form, is simply meditating on Scripture and/or inviting the Lord to come and meet with you.)

Unfortunately, soaking doesn’t always take central place in our lives. However, our Daddy put a desire in us to have Him around. He is wanting to interact with us. God and Adam walked together in the cool of the day. So many times we want our assignment from God, but we don’t put God in our alignment. Connection is the exchange of life. We need His breath in our lungs.

Matthews 6:6-8

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

Your Daddy is waiting for you in His secret place. We have all been invited to have intimacy with Him.

The secret to Jesus’ ministry was His secret place.

1 John 4:16

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

In John 15, Jesus says that we must remain in Him so that He can remain in us:

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

STAY CONNECTED TO THE SOURCE

You have got to stay connected to your Source. Revival is the overflow of LIFE so that you don’t burn out. Your soul and your body can get tired, but not your spirit. Your spirit is eternal. When it is connected to God, it will never grow tired but will always overflow with love and life.

You can either learn by revelation or you can learn by tribulation. The secret place teaches us how to live out of revelation. In the New Testament we see that Jesus often withdrew to a quiet place to be alone. Cultivating and nurturing His secret place with His Father was everything to Him.

Luke 6:12-13

“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:”

Everything starts with the intimacy you have with God. It was only after Jesus had spent all night in prayer that He chose His twelve disciples.

It is God’s grace to do what He has said. If God asks us to do something, He will give us to grace to do it.  The secret place is not about our good deeds, or how well we can perform. Our relationship is built solely on love. Our relationship with Him is what keeps us healthy. From the secret place, we can listen to God while we talk to Him about your emotions.

The secret place stops us from burning out. Love destroys all fear. Whatever we believe, we manifest. When we sin it is because we believe a lie.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE SECRET PLACE?

There are many ways to access the secret place. God is romantic and very creative. He is pursuing you passionately and your secret place might not always look the same. Below are a few suggestions that will help you access the secret place:

  • Schedule it into your day – preferably into the start of your day.
  • Never miss it.
  • Know that He is waiting for you.
  • Journal. Keep a record of all your revelations, pictures, dreams etc.
  • Worship Him.
  • Live with thanksgiving.
  • Read the Scriptures. Then meditate on what you’ve read. What is it saying about God and me?
  • Think about all the things that God has done for you. Steward your testimony and history with God.
  • Discover God’s nature.
  • If you diligently seek Him, He will reward you with His presence.
  • Say and declare: “I just want to be with Him. God come and love me today. That is all I want.”

Daniel 11:32

“Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”

What we see in God’s nature will become manifest in our lives.
