This is a great way to start your day. The combination of the goji berries and cacao nibs blend surprisingly well and the power of this smoothie is found in those two ingredients. Cacao nibs are crushed cacao beans with the skins removed. My children mistakenly thought they are nice and sweet "choc chip" type of nibbles, but soon found out that they are 100% REAL raw chocolate pieces without the sugar that makes them sweet (it is quite funny to see their faces!)
CACAO NIBS
Most commercially available chocolate has gone through a high-temperature roasting process that sweeps away most of the minerals, antioxidants and vitamins in its raw form. Mass-produced chocolate as we know it with the added dairy, sugar and trans fats added, is a toxic stepsister of the original superfood.
For something to be labelled as "raw", it needs to be heated no more than 45 C. Before you buy any cacao nibs in the market, first do some research about your supplier and make sure they buy good quality raw cacao that has not been heated over 45 C.
The magic of cacao
The first benefit of cacao that I think most people will like, is that it actually helps you lose weight. Raw cacao diminish appetite and thereby help you to consume less calories. It is important to note that I am referring to cacao in its raw form, not the sugary ones in the stores.
Other great benefits include boosting your energy. Raw cacao is rich in blood-oxygenating iron and manganese, which are great energising minerals. Cacao also contains methylxanthines, theobromine and small amounts of caffeine - all these minerals boosts your energy levels considerably.
Detoxing? Then cacao is for you! Cacao beans are super-rich in antioxidant flavonols. An interesting fact is that studies have shown that dairy products specifically block the absorption of all the great antioxidants in chocolate. This is another good reason to make your own raw chocolates.
Depressed or having a bad day? Eat more chocolates. Cacao is a great source of serotonin, dopamine and PEA. These three neurotransmitters are vital to help alleviate depression and gives you a feeling of wellbeing.
GLORIOUS GOJI BERRIES
Goji berries are your friends if youthfulness is a priority for you. Goji berries increase the glandular production of HGH (human growth hormone) - this is our master youthening hormone. Goji berries also boost our immune system, support our digestion and are a great source of complete protein. Goji berries are rich in 21 trace minerals and are packed with vitamin B1, B2 and B6 (which also boost energy). Apart from all the benefits, goji berries really tastes great and is a great add-on in any trail mix or smoothie blend. Even try them scattered on a big green salad.
